Today went down as a once-in-a-lifetime kinda day.
My client, Master Sargent Miya Moore-Felton, nominated me for the Hometown Heroes award hosted by Travis Air Force Base (TAFB), and it was approved. Hometown Heroes are everyday ordinary people who serve “above and beyond” in the causes they care about. It has been a humbling honor for me to be one of the 30 honorees.
Today 9 of us civilians got to spend the day on the C-17 Globemaster III. I got to meet other honorees who are a PE teacher who created a basketball league for 5th grade students, an ICU nurse who runs summer nurse camp for high school students, a janitor, a retired vet who helped create a local Relay For Life, a firefighter, a social worker who started JR. Giants for kids in her area, and there was me. My passion is in guiding and supporting our youth to discover their unique greatness through various platforms. I donate my time and my income and have co-founded programs to further our kids self- belief and leadership development.
I got to meet two of the young public affairs servicemen whose entire duties are to ”tell stories” through images of the Air Force community and life events. I’m now proud to call David (aka Jonathon) and Cameron my friends.
I got to learn about others whose causes are near and dear to their hearts that are now widely supported by their respective communities. We were all humbled by this honor and the experience of this day.
We were in flight for a little over 4 hours and flew over Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Tahoe. We all got to rotate to be in the cockpit to get the full bird’s eye view. Wow!!
I learned I was the only person from Napa County on this flight today. I was proud to represent our county.
I will never forget today and will forever be grateful.
Come to the Thunder Over The Bay Air Show this Sat & Sun (3/30 & 3/31). I’d love to see you. Per TAFB request, I’ll have a homebuyer education booth there.
